Barnabas Tumusingize is Sebalu & Lule's Managing Partner and is one of Uganda's foremost practitioners in banking & finance, project & infrastrucure finance, capital markets and other core aspects of corporate and commercial law. Barnabas also possesses significant expertise in the disputes market.
Barnabas has led a number of major briefs over the past couple of years. He has acted as lead advisor for a series of breakthrough trade finance facilities for a leading financial instituition, was co-lead counsel for the cross-listing of the Nation Media Group, the region's leading multimedia house, on the Uganda Securities Exchange and acted as the lead legal advisor for the US$ 18 million medium-term bond issue by Standard Chartered Bank Uganda. He continues to enjoy a stellar reputation as a litigation and arbitration practitioner and has participated in a series of precedent-setting cases in Uganda. Barnabas recently obtained favourable results for Standard Chartered Bank in a US$ 8.8 million claim filed against the institution in a reference before the East African Court of Justice.
Barnabas holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from Makerere University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC) and a Masters in Law from the University of London. He has been previously attached to Glover's Solicitors, London and the University of London's Public Law Project.
Barnabas is a member of the Uganda Law Society, the East African Law Society, the the Commonwealth Lawyers Association and the International Bar Association, where he sits as the Vice-Chair of the Africa Region in-charge of East Africa.
